1,248 Vermonters have been approved for temporary rental assistance.
4,190 property inspections to document damage have been completed.

350 schools closed; 2,000 roads closed; 250 bridges destroyed; 30 towns isolated; 9 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Lake Champlain rose 2.5 feet. It is now only 1.5 ft from being back to flood level. Last spring it was 3.5 ft above flood level for over two months. Mud is for sale cheap!!

During the flooding caused by Hurricane Irene, many Vermonters found time to take pictures of the devastation. Pictures of washed out roads, collapsed homes and standing water in streets were as common as the flood waters were devastating.
Caleb Kenna is a professional photographer from Brandon. He took to the streets of his hometown to capture the scenes of the flooding. He spoke with VPR’s Peter Biello about what it takes to capture the scenes of devastation in a photo that tells a story.
