Swimmers Itch USA: Start the Conversation
Swimmers Itch USA is my latest blog to interact with a local task force and others to find ways to combat Swimmer's Itch (SI), found in most northern lakes in the USA. What it is: Swimmers Itch is a human skin irritation that can occur when a swimmer comes in contact with microscopic organisms that cycle between snails and waterfowl. The organisms in the water may accidentally enter the skin of humans where they will die within 24 hours. The red spots or rash are an allergic reaction to the organism's proteins. Some people are not affected while others, especially children, may have a … [Read more...]

Just did a photo shoot with Larry Asam and Peter Larsen, so we could all have new portraits. Larry and Peter did the heavy duty portraits, while I shot the behind the scenes. The weather looked great, until we got to the front porch of the Congregational Church on Winooski. Yes, we had torrential rains and wild winds. Here is a sneak peak of the portraits. On the Point
The summer cottages designed by architect Nils Luderowski, situated on the many lakes in the Adirondacks, are very special places for me to photograph. Between many thundershowers and lots of delays, we finally got onto the water Oct 10, and to our great surprise, the fall foliage was still there to frame this house! All of the design elements of these houses work so well together. The curves and diagonals, textures of shingles and standing seam metal roof, the decks and porches, the overhangs with colored braces, and the chimneys with "hats" all enhance the landscape and the … [Read more...]
Sailing on Lake Champlain
Last Saturday, manned with a crew of children from the Lake Champlain Sailing Center, the Mashnee won the local Regatta for Lake Champlain. The regatta earns money for several non-profit organizations that help to keep Lake Champlain healthy. Mashnee, winning boat; Captain: Jan Rozendaal and Crew Member: Mark Naud, President of LC Sailing Center With great pleasure I had the opportunity to shoot the Mashnee. This winning boat is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful boats I have ever seen. The Mashnee is 46' Nathanael Greene Herreshoff designed Buzzard's Bay 30 originally built by … [Read more...]

Photoshop Tutorial: Reduce the Noise
Recently, I was on a shoot and used a hand held camera. Because I had to use a very high ISO, the bedroom's blue walls were full of noise. Here is how I went about correcting it. I opened up file, and made copy of background I then used reduce noise filter on advanced settings on this copy of the background. As only green channel had noise I used the following settings: I then repeated this noise reduction 5 more times, on the same layer I then added mask to paint back in some details in bedspreads (red) and lamp books, paintings, bed wood frame using a small soft brush to partially … [Read more...]
Right out of GQ! Todd Lockwood cruises in his 1940 Hot Rod Lincoln
My 1940 Hot Rod Lincoln by Todd R. Lockwood www.ToddRLockwood.com I had no idea how much fun this 1940 Lincoln Contitental would be until I owned it. I was into newer, sexier cars, like Ferraris. © Todd R. Lockwood 2005 My dad drooled at this Lincoln for his entire adult life. It pulled into Lake Placid, NY, brand new, in the summer of 1941. My dad was a lifeguard at the local beach at the time. The Lincoln appeared on the streets of Lake Placid every summer like clockwork. In Memory: Albert “Pat” Gallatin Pritchett III, 1948-2010
Have you ever just walked into a house and wanted to live there forever? And then go down the road and find another, smaller version, you just fall in love with. The two houses Pat Pritchett renovated for his family, and his father (the smaller one) were like that for me. Vermont Vernacular Design, his company name, fits perfectly. I have had the great pleasure to photograph several "new" old houses he has designed, as well as taking a portrait of Pat, Liz and their beloved dogs. Farewell, Pat. Peace be with you, Liz, and your children, CarolynIn lieu of flowers, the family suggests that … [Read more...]
